Is Emprise Du Lion worth unlocking early on the game?
If you want to upgrade your potions and tonics and grenades, early on the game, then it’s definitely worth venturing forth Emprise Du Lion early on. You won’t be fighting enemies or finishing quests, but your purpose would be to farm the rare herbs and metals which are located just around the starting camp as shown in the labeled map below.
Some notable rare herbs labeled are:
- Rashvine Nettle (for upgrading lyrium potion, tears of the dead, rock armor and mighty offense tonic)
- Felandris (for upgrading Jar of bees, pitch grenade, healing mist, antivan fire, confusion grenade)
- Arbor Blessing (for upgrading regeneration potion, lyrium potion, tears of the dead, confusion grenade and migthy offense tonic).
- And then you’ve got rashvine and elfroot
For metals, there are a couple of t3 metal nodes near the camp:
There’s also a decent amount of bloodstone(t2) on the location.
However, mining the t3 metal nodes at a low level would actually penalize you, granting only 1 piece of the metal per node. You must be at least level 16 to remove this penalty.
Emprise Du Lion is also a great place for farming Elfroot as indicated in a green circle in the map above. There’s also a bunch of Snoufleurs, which drop t3 leather, roaming on the frozen lake.
The overall idea here is to be aware of the resources (rare herbs/t2-t3 metals) near the starting camp which you can farm without fighting enemies or exploring the entire map. There might be enemy groups on the map, but they can be easily be avoided.
