In lower difficulties, you might not be using potions that much. But in nightmare difficulty you might find yourself travelling back to camps to refill your potions and tonics often. One of the most basic ingredient of potions is the Elfroot herb. It’s used for the regeneration potion, lyrium potion, mighty offense tonic and rock armor tonic. It’s not only for refilling potions, but you need lots of Elfroot to upgrade them.
When your low on Elfroot, where do you go?
Luckily, there is an area on The Hinterlands and Emprise Du Lion where the Elfroots are in close proximity to each other, which makes harvesting them much faster. In Emprise Du Lion, the Elfroots are almost grouped up together in one spot.
In Hinterlands, this is the spot near the Upper Lake Camp.

In Emprise Du Lion, the Elfroot nursery is just outside the first camp, so even if your low level, you can just go here to farm Elfroot (you won’t be needing to fight enemies). This area is nice since the elfroot herbs are close to each other. The other area in Emprise is also near another camp. But if you’re low level, you might just want to skip it.
Elfroot can also be bought from the merchants in Hinterlands and Crestwood for 20g each. But if you’re saving up gold, then farming them is the next best thing. Also, early on the game, if you’re in nightmare difficulty, you wont have much gold yet. So farming them would be the best thing to do. And, with the farm route pointed above, it wouldn’t take much time for you to gather a bunch of them.
