The Mighty Offense Tonic is a tonic that adds bonus damage to your attack for 20 seconds. When fully upgraded, it adds 52 bonus damage to your attack, grants 50% bonus damage to enemies with barriers and guards, and adds a 100% critical hit damage bonus.
Here’s a video where I do a full run of finding the mage and getting the tonic recipe:
For most people, this is probably the last tonic they will get. It ‘s not because its available at the last part of the game, but its because there’s really no indication on the quest journal on how to get it. Therefore, they miss it. The only way for you to know the quest exist is if you stumble upon a cabin in the Storm Coast. The cabin is not easy to find as it’s located somewhere uphill in the middle of the map.
When you enter this cabin, you’ll notice a room locked. Inside that room is a chest containing the tonic recipe. But to enter the room, you’ll need a key. The key can be found from an enemy mage labeled ‘Rebel Mage’ who’ll drop it after you kill him. But finding this mage is the tricky part, as he spawns randomly. Below will show you where I found this crazy mage patrolling.
The important thing to note first is that you must visit the cabin first and click on the locked door. This somehow ‘triggers’ the mage to spawn. I tried finding the mage before visiting the cabin, and the mage never spawned. Only until I visited the cabin first did the mage spawn.
Where to find the cabin
You can start from the north Hessarian camp and make your way down the cabin, or the camp of the west near the shore.
Where to find the rebel mage
The image above shows the area on The Storm Coast where the mage can spawn. He can spawn on the area south of the Driftwood Margin Camp. Although this is not the only area to find him, but its where I chose to scout for him.
There are several “spawn spots” for the mage (shown as stars in the image above) on this area. However, it’s not only the mage that will spawn on these “spots”. These spots can spawn a Red Templar group, a human enemy group, Venatori group, Ghouls, npc inquisition soldiers, or some animal like a bear, or nothing at all.
I’ll mention the spawn spots below since you’ll want to go back and forth each one and check if the mage has spawned.
First spawn spot is just south of the camp, you’ll see an open area just before the stairs.
If you face right on the first spawn spot, you’ll see tiny road path. At the end of this path is the second spawn spot.
If you go right from the camp, you’ll find another spawn spot. This is the 3rd spot. Below you see an npc soldier group has spawn instead of an enemy mob.
The 4th spawn spot is just up the stairs. There’s a little ‘camp’ area to the left of the stairs:
If you reach this 4th spot and nothing spawns, make a u-turn. Go down pass the camp area and go around it passing the rock arc formation and check back again.
This is what I did and spawned a mob group and the mage. You can also see the video to see what I mean by making a u-turn.
When finding the mage, it’s best to go back and forth these spawn spots since waiting on a spawn spot will not spawn any mobs or the mage.
The Rebel Mage Found
Below is a screenshot where I found the Rebel Mage. He spawned on the camp area up the stairs after nothing spawned at first. But then I went around, made a u-turn and a group of mob spawned along with the mage.
On another instance, the mage spawned on the first spawn spot just south of the Driftwood camp as I was going down the stairs.
When you find the mage, kill it. He has a lot of HP and is resistance to fire (and immune to panicked and asleep conditions).
When killed, he’ll drop a Glowing Key which opens the locked door at the cabin.
So now all you have to do is go back the cabin and open the locked door and go down the basement and open the chest containing the mighty tonic recipe.
Again, I don’t think south of Driftwood camp is the only area the mage can spawn, but it worked well for me by following a route.
Make sure to check the video to better understand what going back and forth the spawn spots mean. Also make sure you don’t stand and wait a certain spawn spot. It’s best to move and face away from the spawn spot to allow the mobs to spawn.
